Milk Chocolate Taste-Test

Gourmet tast-tests milk chocolate. Ghiradelli is the worst - even over Hershey!

New Favorite Snacks

Harvest Garden Vegetable Wheat Thins. These have less fat then the actual reduced-fat Wheat Thins, plus the serving size is higher! Weird! I'm wondering how long it will take me to get sick of these, as I'm eating them every day, which is what I do when I find a good, new snack. Which brings me to...

Puffins cereal. I can't get enough of this stuff lately. I've been buying the "original" flavor as it has the least amount of calories, but Met was out today so I got the cinnamon, which is just as good. I've been having it with...

Silk Light Soymilk. I switched over to this from Rice Dream Rice Milk, as it has less fat and calories, and more vitamins.

Apex Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Breakfast Squares. My gym sells these, and they are damn good! They are so good to throw in your bag if you are out and about and might need a snack to prevent from getting cranky and lightheaded from hunger, as I am prone to do. They are even better microwaved for 10 seconds!

Magnolia Bakery

Had my first Magnolia Bakery cupcake today.

Believe the hype.

Turkey Albondigas Soup

"Albondigas" is Spanish for "meatballs." I got the recipe from the latest issue of Eating Well, which is a really great magazine that I have since subscribed to. The soup tasted best on the first day - didn't keep very well, especially the meatballs. They got a little slimey. And since I had no one to share it with I threw a lot away. I would definitely make this again, as long as there are other people around to eat it too!

Christmas 2006

A few holiday food highlights...

My mom made these amazing stuffed squash with tortellini in a thyme/butter/cream sauce, and arugala salad with dried cranberries and almonds with homemade vinagrette.

It wouldn't be Christmas without crab meat mold!

"Blue Christmas" cake. This had vanilla mousse on the inside. It was a Christmas miracle that I only had one (huge) slice.

Whoopie Pies!!! These pumpkin-maple whoopie pies from The Black Forest Cafe and Bakery in Amherst, NH were unbelievable. So good! A purist may say this is not an actual whoopie pie, like the traditional chocolate ones on the right, but whatever you call it, it was damn good!

New Year's Day Brunch: tofu/egg scramble with onion, black beans, salsa, and gruyere; pita bread; orange juice; and a half-bottle of Veuve Clicquot. Desert did not last long enough for me to take a picture: coffee heath bar crunch ice cream with G's homemade chocolate chip cookies, all covered in Godiva chocolate liquor. Happy New Year indeed!
